In Loving Memory of Abby

Ah... Empress Abby, where should I begin?
There are moments in life that change you forever. Losing my baby sister, Abby, was one of them.
Abby was a deeply creative soul—someone who saw beauty in the simplest things and had a way of bringing that to life. People naturally gravitated toward her not just because of her creativity but also because of her warmth, kindness, and the way she made everyone feel seen and valued. Being around her just felt easy, comforting, and real.
Abby also had a beautiful sense of humour—effortless, genuine, and often exactly what you needed in the moment. She had a way of bringing lightness into a room, making people laugh, and helping others feel at ease. She was deeply connected to her community and to the people around her, always showing up with heart and sincerity. And above all, her love for her family was unwavering—especially for her nephew and niece, whom she wholeheartedly adored. The joy she found in them was something truly special, and it was clear in every moment she spent with them.
Life was not always easy for Abby. She faced hardships that many never fully saw or understood, yet she carried herself with a quiet resilience and grace that stayed with her through it all. Even in difficult moments, she held onto her creativity, her compassion, and her ability to connect with others in a deeply genuine way.
Part of her journey also reflected the reality so many face in silence—the stigma surrounding sexual abuse and mental health. These are conversations that are often avoided, misunderstood, or hidden in shame. Abby’s story is a reminder that behind every quiet struggle is a human being deserving of compassion, understanding, and support. By sharing her story, I hope to help create space for more openness, more empathy, and a world where no one feels they have to carry these burdens alone.
Abby was more than my sister—she was a light, a presence, and a quiet source of strength in my life. She had a way of making things feel softer, warmer, and more meaningful. And even now, I carry that with me.
This space—Kreative Kalyani—exists because of her.
In the midst of grief, I felt a pull to finally create something I had been holding onto for so long. Abby reminded me, in her own way, that life is not meant to be postponed. That the things we love—food, connection, creativity, storytelling—deserve to be lived fully, now.
Every recipe I share, every place I write about, every moment I capture here… holds a piece of that intention.
This is my way of honouring her.
By creating. By sharing. By not waiting.
As I move forward, I also hope to carry Abby’s story into advocacy work—creating space for awareness, conversation, and change. If you’d like to learn more about her story and the path this may take, you can read more here:
